AN OLD-SCHOOL APPROACH TO COLOR
If you have ever marveled at the beauty of colored borosilicate glass, you have Paul Trautman to thank. The originator of boro colored rod has plenty of wisdom and experience to share in this two-day, hands-on class. Topics will include: diluting, blending and mixing pre-made colors into your own custom palette; mixing various chemicals into glass for unique colors; and some of Paul’s favorite oldschool lab techniques, like making hollow ground-glass stoppers for bottles. The curriculum will be partly student-driven; Paul will adjust to the level of the students in the class. However, torch experience is required for participation in this workshop. It will be geared toward borosilicate glass, but
Paul also makes 104 COE soft-glass and can discuss the color properties of both. The primary goal of this class is to help the student gain flexibility and versatility with color in the torch flame.
